In her Dance series, Maro Lorimer celebrates the natural world through the imagery of dance. These joyful pieces have been recognized and honored in a variety of ways.
Tree Dance won “Best of Show” in the Anna Maria Island Art League’s 2007 “Spring Open Exhibit.” Juror Rosalind Jackson wrote: “Fine technique, materials beautifully handled. A compositionally balanced piece with both color and line leading the eye up, down, and back to the center. Speaks of the intertwining of humans and nature. The trees, the people, the birds, the bees…and that we are all from the same roots from the earth. And we reach for the sky. Interconnectedness.”
Forest Dance I received a “Merit” award in Art Center Sarasota’s 2008 “Hidden Cultures” juried members’ exhibition. Juror Greg Rumph said: “This piece evokes a ritual—it tells a story. It is beautifully composed. The use of negative space is good. It is about a Nature culture. The technique is consistent.” Then, looking across the audience at the artist, he exclaimed, “Go, girl!”
Moon Dance is on permanent display at the dance department of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, in memory of Kristina Larson, a gifted graduate student of dance and choreography, who died in a car accident in autumn, 2006.
